A small blue pickup truck makes its way through the streets of Pittsburgh, helping the community. Driving is Martha Harmon, a geriatric care coordinator with the UPMC’s Living-At-Home program. Martha is there to listen, help with appointments, and laugh, so that her clients can stay at home. Martha is also there for a reassuring chat on the telephone, help with writing a letter, running errands, or even reading mail. Some days people just need someone to talk to, and most days it is just as rewarding for Martha.
UPMC’s Living-At-Home is a community resource that provides anything from a visiting nurse to household help, or even just a friendly voice.
People like Martha help members of our community stay healthy, stay happy, and stay where they want to be, in the homes they love.
“This is my friend.’ They don’t say, ‘this is my care coordinator’—‘this is my friend’ every time.”
